Due to a strike by TV technicians, there was no recorded footage of the original match. However, the telecom giant brought key highlights from the match to life through the 4K experience of ‘175 Replayed’.
The first-of-its-kind hologram interaction with the legendary cricketer himself added further excitement to the event. On a path to transform the future of immersive video entertainment, the event aimed to take user experience to the next level.
Testing its technological capabilities,
Airtel provided a select audience with 5G-enabled smartphones that experienced speeds of over 1 Gbps and latency of under 20 milliseconds. It enabled over 50 concurrent users the chance to enjoy a highly personalized 4K video experience of the match. Users also had real-time access to multiple camera angles, 360-degree in-stadia view, shot analysis, and stats, making it a more thrilling experience.
Speaking on the event’s success, Randeep Sekhon, CTO,
Bharti Airtel, said, “The gigabit speeds and millisecond latency of 5G will transform the way we consume entertainment. With today’s demonstration, we have only scratched the surface of the infinite possibilities of 5G and highly personalized immersive experiences in the digital world.”
The 5G powered hologram of Kapil Dev appeared on the stage and interacted with the audience in real-time, taking them through some of the most important and memorable moments from his innings.
“I am simply amazed by the power of 5G technology and seeing my digital avatar interact with my fans as if I am actually there. Thank you Airtel for this wonderful effort and bringing to life one of the most important innings of my career,” Kapil Dev quoted, describing his experience.
Randeep Sekhon added, “With 5G based holograms, we will be able to transport virtual avatars to any location. This will be a game-changer for meetings and conferences, LIVE news, and will have so many other use cases. Airtel is fully prepared for 5G in this emerging digital world and is building a solid pipeline of innovative use cases for India.”
As the country moves closer to the 5G spectrum,
Airtel has been sharpening its emphasis on the enterprise segment, giving audiences a glimpse of what 5G could bring to its customers. The in-stadia experience is the latest of several 5G events the telco has hosted in the past year. In September of 2021, the company hosted a live Cloud Gaming event, involving pro-gamers Mortal and Mamba. The following month it conducted India’s first rural 5G trial. The company has also launched a #5GforBusiness initiative and teamed up with several leading technology brands and companies to test 5G based solutions.
