James Madison University softball crew drops rest of season following Lauren Bernett's demise

The James Madison University softball crew dropped the rest of its 2022 season after the passing of player Lauren Bernett last Monday.

Four games, one against Virginia and three against Elon, were impacted.

The Dukes had proactively dropped five games the week before.

"This was a very tough choice and one that was not made softly," JMU lead trainer Loren LaPorte said.

"We are so appreciative for the help of our fans the entire season and for the love from the softball local area during the previous week.

We will utilize this opportunity to keep mending and to respect Lauren's memory while completing the scholarly semester solid.

Above all, we're pondering our graduating seniors whose vocations have reached an unexpected resolution."
