Host Trevor Noah seemed truly hyped that after a two-month delay because of the coronavirus pandemic, the 2022 Grammys had finally arrived. “We made it people, we made it!” he announced, adding that people were doing shots, and not the Moderna or Pfizer variety. (Although proof of vaccination is required to attend the ceremony.)

He wandered through the crowd for a bit, lightly mocking the nominees (what is Billie Eilish’s brother, Finneas, last name, anyway?), but all the jokes were kind. After all, he said, this is a night of celebration: “We’re going to be singing, we’re going to be dancing,” he said, adding the first Oscars slap reference of the night: “We’re going to be keeping people’s names out of our mouths.”
